Wave Your Hands to Play This Tiny Keyboard

LEDs, app design, and gesture control interfaces collide in a new MIDI keyboard called Keys from instrument design group Opho. Having already developed the smartphone-enabled gTar to teach beginners how to strum, Keys’ is first and foremost a tool for beginning piano players, complete with a Guitar Hero-like companion app. The gesture-controlled sensors embedded above the keys make things more interesting. Their demo shows an artist waving his hands over the Keys to control a drop, and the input can be completely customized to a DJ’s body whims. This puts a theremin-like control in one easy to use, portable instrument.
