If you’ve seen Ben Wheatley’s latest film High-Rise, based on J.G. Ballard’s 1975 novel of the same name about a dystopian British apartment complex, then you’ve heard Portishead‘s appropriately ominous cover of ABBA’s “SOS.” Now the Bristol trip-hop pioneers have finally shared their stark take on the Swedish pop group’s chart-topping hit, accompanied by a simple black and white video featuring the former’s lead singer Beth Gibbons.
The clip is dedicated to late British MP and anti-Brexit politician Jo Cox, who was killed last week after being shot and stabbed by an attacker. Listen to the cover below.
