Following the internet-enabled menstrual cup and the videogame for your vagina in our series of unexpected connected objects, today we present the connected coffin. We already knew it was possible to 3D print urns in the shape of the face of the deceased, but this is a whole new kind of funeral plan.
The idea, from Britain’s Perfect Choice Funeral, is basically a custom box with a screen and speaker. Social media updates from all your accounts will be posted regularly, visible on-screen. The interaction goes both ways, too, since the family can record voice messages which play from the coffin’s speakers. All this is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the inevitable next-wave of smart objects, but a leap into the realm of true extravagence.
