There’s one week until J Hus’ debut album Common Sense is finally released. To mark the occasion, a new track from the record – indeed, its title track, “Common Sense” – has been revealed to our mortal ears, via an early premiere on BBC Radio 1 this morning. It sees Hus on more commanding form than we’ve heard before – he sounds comfortable and relaxed, riding a slightly slower, funkier (in the purest sense of the word), and more instrumentally rich beat than he’s done previously, and it’s definitely a look that suits him.
While “Common Sense” isn’t necessarily a departure for J Hus, it’s definitely an expansion of the confident and assured sound he’s already established, and if the album from which it takes its name follows in this vein, we’ll be looking at one of the best British debuts of the year.
