Insult to Injury: Week Ending 6/20

Hi. Hello. This is Insult to Injury. What the editors do here is spew out everything they’ve been listening to over the last week. Since some of the editors are out of the office, enjoying the big bright sky orb thing, whatever it’s called, we decided to have one of our interns fill in. Please be kind to him.

Puff Daddy – “We Dem Boyz” (Remix) ft. Meek Mill & French Montana
I don’t know how it’s not charting higher, but to me it’s clear that Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz” is the best song for summer and one of the best songs of the year. It’s pretty much all I want to listen to, which is fortunate because I hear it blasting somewhere on my street like five times a day. I wouldn’t say that I needed a remix of Puff Daddy (RIP Diddy, but this will always be the superior name), Meek Mill, and French Montana, but I definitely didn’t not need it. And even if this version subs out Wiz’s amazing Auto-Tuned hook, it replaces it with the only acceptable alternative, which is Puff Daddy yelling. Meek’s flow is killer, but it’s really French who steals the show: i.e. “we eating healthy, nigga/got your favorite rapper asking for a selfie, nigga” and “denied my visa, missed that wedding up in Paris” (this, in case it’s not clear, is an explanation of why French Montana didn’t make it to Kanye and Kim’s wedding). There’s no replacing Wiz, but I’m happy to play this version and that one back to back HAAAAAANNNNN.

Nao vs. A. K. Paul – “So Good”
Remember Jai Paul? You know, that guy who made a few amazing singles, then had his album leaked, then was never heard from again? Those were good times, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting anything new any time soon, so it looks like we should just enjoy what we have. And what we have is Jai Paul’s brother, who is putting out similar music. Who knows, maybe A.K. Paul is Jai Paul. Maybe you’re Jai Paul. Maybe I’m Jai Paul?
