Improve Your Skiing Skills With A Winter Sports Wearable

Nine months ago, Intel kicked off the Make It Wearable (MIW) Challenge with the goal of inspiring the next big idea in wearables. Part-competition, part-entrepreneurial mentorship program, the challenge attracted thousands of global participants. Since then, 10 teams of young entrepreneurs and developers have been selected to have their limits tested as they push the boundaries of their imaginations—and of wearable technology. The Creators Project is already halfway through introducing the teams of finalists in the running for the $500,000 Make It Wearable prize. Last week, we brought you First V1sion, the smart jersey with an embedded camera. Today, we bring you Snowcookie.

Project description: Team Snowcookie has created a wearable for ski training that can improve user safety and technique, while also providing a social network. After orthopedist Martin Kawalski saw commonalities in the ski injuries he was treating, he recognized that the lack of biometric winter sports technology meant that many of these accidents could have been avoided. Utilizing the Intel Edison to crunch the massive data that skiiers generate, Snowcookie connects skiiers to a network of distributed devices that can improve skiing performance. The result is a better, safer, and more connected skiier.
